Leah Remini Quits Scientology: Report
Leah Remini, for years one of the best-known members of the Church of Scientology, has left the church following alleged disputes with its management, according to reports.
The departure by the King of Queensactress, 43, was first reported by Tony Ortega, the former Village Voice editor who is working on a book about the church and writes a daily blog about it.
The New York Post also reports she is making a break from the church after facing years of "interrogations" and "thought modification" for questioning leader David Miscavige’s rule.
A rep for the actress had no comment on the situation.
A Scientology spokeswoman said in a statement: "The Church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no comment about any individual Church member."
Ortega suggested Remini had grown disillusioned with the church's management in recent years, and that she was subjected to interrogations after an incident at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's 2006 wedding in which she asked about the whereabouts of church leader Miscavige's wife.
After The King of Queens ended its nine-year run in 2007, the former Who's the Boss andSaved by the Bell star spent one season as a co-host on The Talk.
In a 2007 interview with PEOPLE, Remini laughed off reports that she had tried to convertJennifer Lopez, one of her closest friends, to Scientology. "Two girls can't hang out together?" she said. "What does that have to do with religion?"
