Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg Was Originally Booked on Flight that Crashed

But for frequent flyer miles, Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg would have been on Asiana Flight 214.

"Taking a minute to be thankful," the company's chief operating officer posted on Facebook on Saturday after the Boeing 777 out of Seoul crashed while landing at San Francisco International Airport.

Sandberg, who had been in South Korea for Facebook business and to promote her book Lean In, explained that she and colleagues originally had planned to take the Asiana flight.

"We switched to United so we could use miles for my family’s tickets," she wrote. "Our flight was scheduled to come in at the same time, but we were early and landed about 20 minutes before the crash.”
